「recently」と「currently」

 

「recently」も「currently」も、時をあらわすときに使われます。

Recently

 

「recently」は「最近」という意味です。「recently」は、副詞ですが、たとえば、「近年」といいたいときは、「recent」という形容詞を使って「recent years」のように表現することもできます。

 

では、例文をみてみます。

The company recently launched a new product called ABC.
（会社は最近、ABCという新製品を発売しました。）

The most recent data show that the number fell by 30%.
（直近のデータによると、その数は30％減少した。）

Demand for the product has been growing in recent years.
（その製品の需要は近年増加している。）

 

Currently

 

一方で、「currently」は「現在」という意味です。「currenty」も副詞です。形容詞の「current」も、「現在の」や「現行の」という意味で使われます。「current year」は、「今年」や「本年」を意味します。

（このサービスは現在利用できません。）

I am currently taking an online course.
（私は現在、オンラインコースを受講しています。）

The current plan is to launch a new product by the end of the year.

「足元」は英語で？

 

  「足元の業績」などの「足元」は、「current」を使って表現されることが多いです。

Earnings are currently growing.
（足元の業績は拡大している。）

Despite the current economic slowdown, the company expects sales growth.
（足元の景気後退にもかかわらず、会社は売上高増加を予想する。）
